6 Reasons Why You Should Seriously Not Go To LAW SCHOOL!

So some of you asked for this, and I’m delivering you the content you want. Here are some reasons why you shouldn’t go to law school.

1. Don’t go to law school if you want to get rich quick. Unless you come from a very wealthy family, it is very likely that you will take out many student loans to pay for your law school tuition. Thus, when you graduate, you most likely will be on a tight budget for years until your loans are paid off. Also, there’s no guarantee that you will be working a job that gives you a high salary. Contrary to popular belief, not all lawyers are making 6 figures.

2. Don’t go to law school simply because you don’t know what else to do with your life. As I mentioned, law school is VERY EXPENSIVE. You can easily be over 200k+ in debt by the time you graduate. Therefore, law school is not the place for you to try to figure out your career options. Be smart with your money and don’t spend it unless you have to. Take time to think what you want to do before jumping in school.

3. Don’t go to law school simply because your parents, family, and friends are pressuring you.
It’s okay to rely on your family and friends for guidance and support. But it’s not okay for you to go to law school just for them. Make sure to go to law school only if you are genuinely interested. Your family and friends will not be the one who will have to shoulder the grueling academic and/or financial burden. They will be sleeping comfortably in their beds, while you are pulling all-nighters to finish a homework assignment. Only go to law school if you really believe you want to become a lawyer. Your belief makes the all-nighters worth it.

4. Don’t go to law school just because your favorite shows (SUITS, How to Get Away With Murder, Law & Order, etc.) make the legal profession seem like the perfect career. Tvs shows and movies tend to romanticize the legal profession. 9/10 the legal profession is never like how it is on television. Take the time to shadow an attorney in real-life before deciding to go to law school. This will help you determine what’s real and what’s not.

5. Don’t go to Law school because it is very EXPENSIVE! According to the Education Data Initiative, the average total cost of law school is $206,180 for three years. So, if you don’t want to take out student loans or be in “debt for life,” then try another career path that isn’t costing you hundred thousands of dollars.

6. Don’t go to law school if you don’t want to work. This may sound ridiculous, but seriously, the legal profession is not for those who are lazy. If you want a less stressful job, then consider another career. Being a lawyer often requires long hours and making important decisions that can have a huge impact on your clients.
